During the Apple Arcade onboarding, you'll be asked to select four categories that you're interested in. They'll then present you with a "starter pack" of items to download.

After commenting on the Figma app, you'll be prompted to download the mobile app to be notified if anyone responds. Even better, they'll show a QR code, or email you a link.

1. It progressively onboards a feature (the app).
2. It makes it easy to send instructions to another device (as you're on your laptop).
Duolingo will prompt you to install an iOS widget, and then give you step by step instructions, all with beautiful animations.

For example; "users with widgets installed are 25% more likely to keep to their daily streak goals".
If you long tap to delete the AsaTools iOS app, there's a "quick feature" and a prompt to give feedback before deleting it.

How do you get someone to install a mobile app while they're sat at a desktop?
The hard part is moving the instruction to the other device, so Figma offers a QR code to scan or an emailed link. The prompt appears right after you leave a comment, framed around being notified when someone replies.
Is there anything worth doing when someone long-presses to delete your app?
Deletion is often a workaround for a setting people can't find. Opal knows people delete it rather than change every blocking rule, so its iOS context menu carries "Wait! Don't delete me!" and an "unblock all apps now" shortcut. AsaTools uses the same menu to ask "Something wrong?" and collect feedback.
Why use an interaction rather than a video to show what an app does?
Interaction forces people to sit up and pay attention, and adds curiosity that a video of the same thing doesn't. ABY Journal has you scrub the screen to reveal the app on first open, and Spotify's thumbnail generator uses a swipeable carousel of examples that mimics flicking through a record collection. Both need to stay fast, or they become a chore.
What's the point of asking about interests before anything has been downloaded?
The answers can be converted straight into something downloadable. Apple Arcade asks new users to pick four categories, then builds a "starter pack" that installs in a single tap, and the same component reappears on the homepage feed afterwards.
What's usually missing from a widget install prompt?
A reason. Duolingo removes the friction of a fiddly OS-level task with step-by-step animated instructions, but never states the payoff — something like widget users being more likely to keep their streak would give people a motive to follow the steps.
